On a student visa you can access more than you think. Start free: join Velocity (free, no credit check) and link your Coles Flybuys card — this alone earns you points on every Coles shop. Go further: CBA offers a credit card to international students with a valid visa and 6+ months remaining — check Finder.com.au for eligibility. Weekly routine: check Wednesday promos here, buy gift cards for things you'd buy anyway (Uber, Apple, Google Play), and scan your Flybuys card. You don't need a credit card to earn meaningful points as a student.

Velocity Points expiry — what changed in 2026
Velocity Points expire after 24 months of inactivity. "Activity" means earning or redeeming at least one point. If you've done nothing in 2 years, your points are gone. The fix is simple: earn points regularly — buy a $20 gift card at Coles during a promo, or order DiDi once. That resets the 24-month clock. Enable auto-transfer in Flybuys → Velocity so points move monthly and your account stays active without you thinking about it.

Planning to buy a laptop, TV, phone or appliance? Buy a JB Hi-Fi gift card at Coles during a 20× promo week first, then use it in-store or online at JB Hi-Fi. You earn Flybuys points at 20× on the card purchase, then spend at full value. The limit is 5 cards per day at $500 each — so you can load up to $2,500 in gift cards in a single visit. For a $1,000 purchase that's 20,000 Flybuys = 10,000 Velocity Points. Plan your big purchases around Wednesday promos.
